Treating Fin Rot?

My fish has a pretty severe case of fin rot, and in a matter of a day or two is now missing a good chunk of his tail. I bought T.C. Tetracycline by API and just gave him a dose of it. I also bought Aquarium Salt. Is it safe to use the aquarium salt and the tetracycline together? I also have Melafix, but that's just for regrowing fins, not fixing fin rot, right? I also moved him into a smaller tank without any plants or decorations.

Does anyone know about how long it will take for the Tetracycline to take effect? Should his tail stop deteriorating soon? He's just lost so much of it in the past two days that I don't want it to get any worse than what it is.

I really want my betta to get better, and any help would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

Treating Fin Rot?
The time for effectiveness is going to vary. I had this exact same problem two weeks ago with a new baby Arowana I bought. I was able to stop the tail rot in three days of treatment. Using salt with TC isn't going to be a problem. TC though is an older medication and if after 5 days you don't see results, switch over to Maracyn 2. I was advised this when I had my problem from magicman and I always trust any input I get from him when it comes to medications. My arowana was able to regenerate his tail in three days after, so in my case it worked out fine. I think results will vary. Stick with your TC treatment for up to five days, and switch to Maracyn 2 if you find it not working.

Reply:Keep his water really clean, use the aquarium salt, the tetracycline, and half a dose of melafix. If your fish doesn't get any better after 5 days then I'd do a 100% water change and start dosing with Maracyn and Maracyn 2 along with the aquarium salt. Good luck!
Reply:Its not fin rot its the other fish having his way with the other fish. As in eating him.
